Here he took part in various detachments around the globe including Red Flag exercises at Nellis Air Force base in Nevada and detachments to the Middle East. Following this, he was assigned as an instructor at No2 Tactics and Weapons Unit at Royal Air Force Chivenor flying the Hawk. It was whilst at Chivenor that he became involved in flying historic aircraft and flew various types including the Spitfire, Mustang, Corsair and Hunter. Inducted into SHF in the late 90s, Andy has flies the SHF fighters – the Mustang, Vampire and Hunter – and finds them all equally exciting to fly. Professionally, Andy is the Chief Pilot for Martin-Baker Aircraft Company where he flies the historic Gloucester Meteor for ejection seat test and development purposes and the company Beech King Air.

Away from flying, Andy is a competitive rifle shot who has achieved a measure of individual success whilst he has also represented Great Britain on several occasions both at home and abroad. He also thoroughly enjoys the social skiing and hospitality to be found during winter visits to Norway as a guest of SHF!
